This is a quick & concise walkthrough on how you can create a custom audience by scraping LinkedIn groups. You can use this technique to build an audience from LinkedIn groups belonging to your niche.
In this technique, we’ll use the LinkedIn Group Member Extractor tool from Prospectss.com to get the required data from LinkedIn groups.
Step 1: Identify LinkedIn Groups to Scrape Data for Custom Audience
Find multiple groups that fall into your target audience/niche. Ideally, you should go for groups with more than 10K members. You could create a custom audience from both public and private groups.
Search for relevant keywords in your niche & select the ‘Group’ filter to get a list of groups. Remember that for you to scrape private groups, you need to be a member of those groups. So send a request to join & you can start scraping upon the admins’ approval.
Step 2: Start Scraping LinkedIn Groups!
Once you have identified the group that you want to scrape, we will move forward & use LinkedIn Group Scraper from Prospectss.
To scrap the data, you must sign up to Prospectss & Install the LinkedIn Group Scraper Extension. You can initially signup for their Free plan to test the tool if you want.

Now, log in to your LinkedIn profile & go to any group you want to scrape. You need to open the tool from the extension & simply click on the ‘Scrape Group Members’ button.
Note that you can scrape a maximum of 10,000 members’ data at a time.
After a short while, you will get a link that will direct you to the tool’s page. Once you are on the tool page, you can scroll down to see the progress of the scraped group. You then need to download the data & get all the mentioned details about group members.

Step 3: Build a Custome Audience with the Acquired Data
Open LinkedIn Ads Manager, select your campaign objective & visit the Audiences section.
Once you are on the audiences section, select the ‘List Upload’ option. There, you’ll see 2 options- Company List & Contact List. Since the LinkedIn Group Scraper provides both company names as well as names & emails of your potential leads, you can select either option, i.e. upload company or contact list.
Now, click on the ‘Upload a List’ option & upload the data that you’ve acquired on a CSV file/ excel sheet by scraping the LinkedIn groups. Click on ‘Agree & Upload’ & move on to the next stages of your ad campaign.
Well, that’s about it. This is how you create a custom audience by scraping LinkedIn groups.
Note: You need to download the contact list template in order to upload your target leads/audiences list.
LinkedIn requires many parameters to upload the data for custom audiences. However, all of the parameters are not compulsory, although the more, the merrier.
You can choose the following data points from the CSV:
- First & Last Name
- Mobile Device ID
- Google User ID
Additional fields increase the accuracy of the match. They are as follows:
- Company
- Job Title
- Country
To Sum it Up
You should use the LinkedIn Group Scraper tool for scraping LinkedIn groups. This will help you create a custom audience as this tool provides data on the scrapped users, such as their names, emails, company names, job titles, etc.
